Enjoy a Happy Healthy 4th of July

Summer is usually the season for barbecues and other outdoor get-togethers. Unfortunately during the pandemic, most gatherings have been put side for the time being. We can still enjoy barbecues and outdoor time with our immediate family and those we have been quarantining with.

Here are some great options for you to consider for your family Forth of July celebration:

  • Create a platter of beautifully arranged cut seasonal fruit. On a budget? Fruit kebabs will be just as popular, but require less fruit to make a beautiful, full platter to display. Will there be lots of kids and teens at the party? Watermelon slices are always a big hit.

  • Soda and juice drinks are loaded with sugar or artificial sweeteners, both of which deplete your body. Put out a variety of flavored seltzers or waters that you’ve infused with berries, lemon slices, or cucumber is a delicious alternative and a great way to hydrate during the summer months.

  • A big, beautiful green salad in the middle of the table makes a lovely centerpiece. Keep it simple by making a salad of greens with one or two other items. Skip the store-bought salad dressing! They’re usually full of sugar. Instead, make a simple vinaigrette of 2 parts olive oil to one part lemon juice with a sprinkle of sea salt and a few grinds of black pepper. Whisk it together with just a dash of Dijon mustard to emulsify the dressing.Do you want more information on making healthier food choices? I can help.
