Replacing"I Can't" with "How Can I?"

March 25, 2019

Did you know that you are actually a field of energy? It's true, those hands you're looking at are made up of cells, which are made up of atoms, and atoms are not actually matter, they are tiny balls of fluctuating energy. You are quite literally made of pure, beautiful, universal energy, and you can do incredible things.

We all have a story. It may be a story about a dysfunctional family, a health issue, financial troubles or lack of self-esteem, but no one comes to the party of life without some sort of challenge. Remember these are just stories, and we get to write the ending. It is time to show up fully and embrace your brilliance. One way to do this is to begin replacing the phrase “I can’t” with “how can I?” when facing a challenge on the path to achieving your health, financial, or relationship goals.

Jack Canfield, (NY Times best-selling author of the Chicken Soup for the Soul books), was turned down by 144 different publishers before being published. That had to be hard on the ego, but he knew he had something inspiring to offer the world and he chose to say “how can I?” in the face of huge challenges. Those books have now been translated into forty languages and are sold in over 100 countries around the world.

Walt Disney was fired from a Kansas City newspaper because they claimed he lacked imagination. What if he had said “I guess they’re right, I can’t”?

Multiple publishers rejected J.K. Rowling (author of the Harry Potter series), and one even suggested she take a writing course.

Oprah was fired for being too emotional, the thing that most endears her to people.

The point is, if these people had said “I can’t” when they hit a wall rather than “how can I?”, the world would have missed out on their gifts and would be a very different place. I challenge you to replace the phrase “I can’t” with “how can I?” this week and see what a difference it makes in the way you approach the challenges you are experiencing.
